Sept. 2 of 2014: Arrive in Beijing
Today's Activities Welcome to join in the fantastic train journey through the extensive northern and western mainland full of legends and imagination - from Beijing to Urumqi (12- day tour starting in Sept. 2, 2014), or from Xi’an to Urumqi (10-day tour starting in Sept. 4, 2014).

Upon arrival in Beijing on Sept. 2 of 2014, the first stop of the 12-day train tour our tour guide will pick you up and escort you to Sheraton Hotel for check-in and tiredness elimination. The rest of the day is free at your proposal.
Sept. 3 of 2014: Beijing - Luoyang( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )
Today's Activities Admire the magnificent Forbidden City, the first highlight after breakfast, to savor the unrivaled historical and cultural arts as the world’s largest, most complete ancient wooden architectural complex.

Then you can enjoy an excellent Beijing Roast Duck lunch which will melt in your mouth. Afternoon proceed to Capital Museum in distinctive architectural style with both classical and modern beauty, to appreciate the outstanding over 5000 precious artifacts on display. Later catch a glimpse of the exterior outline of Beijing’s symbol buildings - Bird Nest (Olympic National Stadium) and Water Cube (Olympic Aquatics).

After dinner, at 9:30pm, board the luxury train “China Orient Express”, accompanying you to enjoy the upcoming Silk Road adventure, to the next destination, Luoyang, one of China’s eight ancient cities, which tells about colorful legends and historical stories.

Sept. 4 of 2014: Luoyang - Xi'an ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )

Today's Activities

Your first morning on the train is opened with a distinctive breakfast. Arrive in Luoyang at 9:00am and enjoy a visit to Shaolin Temple shrouded in legend and mystery. The origin of martial arts and kung fu is part of the mystique of Shaolin Temple and the Shaolin monks. It has a long history and plays an important role in Chinese Buddhism, as well as the martial arts.

Have a taste of Yongtaisi Shaolin Vegetarian food for lunch near Shaolin Temple. There is a theatre here which presents the famous Kungfu Show at 2:00pm. At 10:30pm in the evening, take "China Orient Express" to Xi’an and enjoy a unique night life on the train.

Notice: If you choose the 10-day Xi'an - Urumqi tour, the starting date is Sept. 4, 2014 and your first stop is Xi'an. On arrival in Xi’an, you are picked up by the local tour guide and transferred to Sheraton Xian North City Hotel for rest. Next day will serve you a wonderful excursion around this ancient city.

Today's Activities Early morning arrive in Xi’an at 10:00am, step into the starting point of Silk Road for the great trade caravans in the ancient time and enjoy an interesting city tour to experience this over-3000-year-old ancient city.

Xi’an Ancient City Wall is the most complete one that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. Visit the Statue of Star Point of Silk Road and Big Wild Goose Pagoda, thereafter back to the hotel for a break.

The marvelous Tang Dynasty Dinner Show at Tang Dynasty Palace serves you a feast of satisfaction to your appetite, eyes and mind, decorated with various savory dishes and exciting show. Stay overnight in Sheraton Xian North City Hotel.

Sept. 6 of 2014: Xi'an - Tianshui ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )
Today's Activities After breakfast, drive to one of the world’s eight wonders, Terracotta Warriors' Museum, for an exploration of China’s long history. Here you can observe the grandiose of the Qin Dynasty army. Life-sized terracotta soldiers and horses are arranged in battle formation in a huge burial pit. The Terracotta Warriors are among the greatest troves of historical artifacts and art in the world today.

Afterwards continue on to Huaqing Hot Spring in Mount Lishan, a favorite spa since the Tang Dynasty, where emperors came come here to bathe and enjoyed the scenic beauty in the ancient time. At 10:00pm get on the train to set out for Tianshui.

Sept. 7 of 2014: Tianshui - Jiayuguan ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )
Today's Activities Reach Tianshui, the birthplace of ancient Chinese culture, about 6:30am in the morning, renowned for Maiji Mountain and Maiji Grottoes, one of China’s four famous grottoes. Maiji Mountain is 150 meters tall, named for its shape - like that of a pile of wheat. According to historical records, Maiji Grottoes were excavated during the Hou Qin Dynasty of the Sixteen Kingdom Period.

Take the overnight train to Jiayuguan at 4:30pm, which is quite comfortable and feasts your eyes on the spectacular evening and morning views of the regional countryside.

Sept. 8 of 2014: Jiayuguan Pass( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )

Today's Activities

Get off the China Orient Express to explore the grand Jiayuguan Pass, the most western end of the world-famous extensive Great Wall, with a reputation of “First and Greatest Pass under Heaven”. As one of the most important passes in the ancient Silk Road, Jiayuguan Pass, a significant communication hub of Eastern and Western cultures, is the best preserved and most magnificent military building among the passes of Great Wall.

Admire the aesthetic picture scroll by climbing up to the top of the tower: the southern part faces the spectacular Qilian Mountain covered by snow all the year round, while the waving Mazong Mountain stands in front of you.

Afternoon move on to Overhanging Great Wall, located on a ridge that is 45 degrees from vertical. Then appreciate the process of Luminous Cups, which can, if filled with wine, give off light in the moonlight. Later have a taste of a delicious Chinese dinner with Fried Gigot. Stay overnight in Holiday Plaza Hotel Jiayuguan.

Today's Activities

Leave Jiayuguan Pass at 10:00am for Dunhuang by rail. On the train, experts of Dunhuang Institute are specially arranged for you to explain the outstanding Dunhuang culture in detail.

Upon arrival, visit Mingsha Hill, one of China’s 4 famous mingsha hills, named after a saying that if sliding down its sleep slopes, you can hear sounds made by the moving sand and the sounds are likened to melodious orchestral music if the weather is good. In the same time, you can look at your reflection at the crystal clear crescent-shape spring - Crescent Moon Spring.

After dinner, take a leisure stroll around Dunhuang night market - Shazhou Night Market, one of the best night market in China and famous for its tasty snacks, local specialties, and crafts etc. Stay overnight in Dunhuang Hotel.

Today's Activities

This day is highlighted by the renowned Mogao Grottoes, designated as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO for its 1600 year accumulated cultural, architectural, and art treasures. Considered as the eastern Louvre Museum, Mogao Grottoes will impress you with the remaining 492 cave temple and 45000 square meters of frescos. At 5:00pm in the afternoon, get on the “China Orient Express” to Turpan. Enjoy a delicious dinner on the train.

Sept. 11 of 2014: Turpan - Urumqi ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner )

Today's Activities

At 7:00am arrive in Turpan, visit Karez Irrigation System, a masterpiece of the smart Xinjiang people, which is designed for the desert, comprising surface drains underground canals and reservoirs. Currently there are some 1,258 systems in use, of a total length of over 3,000krn. It is said that Karez irrigation system, Great Wall of China and Jinghang Grand Canal are the engineering miracles of ancient China.

Enjoy a distinctive lunch with Huge-plate Chicken. Next hit is Flaming Mountain, immortalized in the classic story 'Journey to the West'. The bright red soil of the mountain glows even more under the glaring sun.

Drive to Jiaohe Ancient City, also called Ya'er City and located 10km from Turpan, is said to be a Han Period Cheshi structure. Continue on to Urumqi and stay overnight in Hoi Tak Hotel.

Today's Activities Head to Mount Tianshan to overlook the waving snow-capped peaks, and enjoy a boat cruise on Tianchi Lake (Heavenly Lake) to appreciate the breathtaking natural landscape, especially the reflection of the snow peaks on the crystal surface. Tianchi Lake is nestled high in the Mount Tianshan with many intoxicating myths and legends, covered with a layer of magical color.

Visit Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum to have a look at a thousand pieces of precious cultural relics with over five thousand years history. Turn your attention to Xinjiang and Nephrite Museum and make time to roam around International Bazaar. Later enjoy a Xinjiang Roast Sheep dinner with a distinct flavor. Then back to Hoi Tak Hotel for rest.
