The Tian Tan Buddha Statue is the world's largest of its kind. Seated outdoors the bronze Buddha statue is also known as Big
Buddha or Giant Buddha and is located in the Ngong Ping Plateau, Lantau Island, Hong Kong. Proof of the harmonious relationship
between man and nature, people and religion, Big Buddha sits near Po Lin Monastery. This majestic statue is adjacent to Ngong Ping
360's Ngong Ping Village and the Po Lin Monastery.
Tian Tan Buddha sits on a lotus atop Ngong Ping plateau. Weighing 250 tons, it is 34 meters (111 ft.) high. It took over 10 years to
complete the statue, and was opened for public viewing in 1993 accompanied by deeply religious ceremonies.
Sitting atop 268 steps, the Tian Tan Buddha Statue is positioned on a lotus throne, surrounded by eight smaller bronze statues
representative of the gods, or immortals. The statue is so named as its base is a model of Tian Tan, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.

The Buddha Statue's right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction while his left hand rests on his knee, signifying human
happiness. While most Buddha statues face South, Tian Tan casts his serene gaze towards the North, making this statue unique and
one of a kind.
The Tian Tan Buddha Statue already attracts over one million visitors per annum; Ngong Ping Skyrail will make this unique landmark
even more accessible and will provide guests the best possible views of this majestic statue, framed against its tranquil backdrop of
the North Lantau Country Park.
To Buddhists, The Tian Tan Buddha Statue possesses a quiet power that one can't help but be drawn to; its serene presence is a
balm for the soul, providing a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.
