Shangri-La Tour
The James Hilton novel Lost Horizon has wonderfully uncovered the mystique of this Himalayan paradise to the world, capturing people 's imagination while stirring up their inner desires for peace and tranquility. While not quite the mythical Himalayan utopia Hilton portrayed it as, Shangri-La is a "heaven on earth" in its own right, a happy land, isolated from the troubles of outside world while seemingly insulated from the passing of time. Beautiful lakes and majestic Tibetan Lamaseries are common throughout Shangri-La. But even greater discoveries await. The Haba Snow Mountain and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain both tower into the sky and attract tens of thousands annually. Baishuitai Terrace is a representative of yet another type of scenery you can visit. Riding on horseback or cycling along the lakes of Pudacuo National Park can take you even closer to nature, allowing you to see the microcosms of life and feel you are even part of the surrounding environment. As wonderful as the scenery is, the area has its fair share of man-made beauty as well including the elaborate Songzanlin Monastery and Feilai Temple where is the best place to appreciate holy Meili Snow Mountain.
Top Shangri-La Attractions
Bitahai Lake: It is an emerald color all year round. The local Tibetans believe that it appeared when a fairy lady dropped her miracle mirror. In the novel "The Lost Horizon" James Hills depicts it as a "Blue Lake", an essential part of "Shangri-La".

Shudu Lake: Around the lake, there are dense forests of fir spruce and birch. These are filled with wild animals such as musk deer, bears, leopards, golden cats, and pheasants etc.
Songzanlin Monastery: As one of the largest lamaseries in the Kangzang(tri-province area of Tibet, Sichuan, and Yunnan) region, they are both Tibetan-style watchtowers and are surrounded by eight sub-lamaseries and the dormitories or the lamas.
Baishuitai Terrace: The terrace is covered by a layer of white deposits of calcium carbonate crystallized in the spring water.
